Queer Vietnamese artist & facilitator practicing collective care
My name is J (they/them). I’m a queer Vietnamese artist, social worker, and educator living on Wahpekute Dakota land, also known as Minneapolis. As someone of diaspora, my work is shaped by layered histories, memory, and the longing for connection across distance- both physical and ancestral. My creative practice is deeply intertwined with my commitment to collective care, interdependence, and imagining more liberatory futures.
My background in the nonprofit and higher education sectors has allowed me to support queer, trans, and BIPOC communities through grants management, student support, community-centered facilitation, and capacity-building. As of Summer 2025, I will hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) ((knock on wood)), and my approach to both art and systems work is grounded in anti-oppressive values, somatic awareness, and deep relational care.
I make art that feels tactile and colorful—often through linocut printmaking, collage, and zine work. I’m drawn to themes like nature, queerness, neurodivergence, grief, and transformation. My practice is influenced by my desire to interrupt capitalism and white supremacy culture, while offering moments of softness, joy, and reflection.
I live with my two beloved cats, Kochu and Bok Choy, who are often causing curious chaos nearby. Whether I’m creating art, facilitating healing spaces, or building sustainable systems, my work lives at the intersection of creativity, justice, and care.
